The Concept of Faith in Hebrews 10:32–12:3

Abstract

This work demonstrates that the concept of faith in Hebrews 10:32–12:3 is multifaceted, integrating themes related to theology and Christology, eschatology, and soteriology for the author's pastoral purpose. God's word and His accompanying promises awaken faith in the believer to perceive them though they remain unseen. The proper response of a believer, faith trusts completely that God will fulfill all His promises and continues to depend on Him for the resources to remain in faith, specifically in the work of Christ who is the object and model of faith. Presenting numerous exemplars of faith, the author demonstrates how believers live in a time marked by tension that requires a forward-looking faith that perseveres present suffering in order to receive future promises. Genuine faith becomes a transforming influence that affects every aspect of believers' lives so that they remain steadfast in faith.
