Current TV (TopTV channel 406) has quickly become one of my favourite channels. It's not just the fresh and inspired content - it's also how they present it. Playful camera angles, inventive narrative techniques and slick editing sequences extract the meatiest bits of the story and shine a light on the smaller, subtle but ultimately more profound moments.
From shows documenting the 50 most-seen viral videos to series exploring Hollywood dieting, the channel seems to have a reserve of young, persistent and passionate film-makers who immerse themselves in the subject they tackle (one journo even hiked in the Colombian jungle, braving crotch-loving leeches, just to show you how ecstacy pills are produced) - shaking the perception that documentaries and current affairs shows are boring and inaccessible.
Presenting that point perfectly, is Morgan Spurlock's must see new series, 50 Documentaries to See Before You Die. Doccie afficiandos should recognise Morgan - he's the guy who brought the world Super Size Me, and with it, a whole new way of looking at documentaries.
