A 16-year-old boy, who was receiving aripiprazole and fluoxetine, developed rhabdomyolysis and drug rash eosinophilia with systemic symptoms (DRESS) syndrome following ingestion of a high dose of caffeine.
The boy had been receiving daily aripiprazole (increased from 5mg to 10mg 4 weeks previously) and daily fluoxetine 30mg for bipolar disorder since he was 9 years old [routes not stated]. He subsequently presented with new-onset fever and a refractory pruritic rash which had first appeared on his face, and had spread to his back, trunk and legs 9 days before admission.
