The United European Gastroenterology Week (UEGW) is organized annually by the United European Gastroenterology Federation (UEGF). UEGF, established in 1988, is a professional nonprofit medical federation comprising all of the major European societies with an interest in disease of the digestive system, including the esophagus, stomach, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, intestine and bowel. UEGF is, at present, the most comprehensive European gastroenterological organization. Its federative structure incorporates 15 professional societies, seven as founding and eight as associate members. The goals of the UEGF are: to advance science and education in gastroenterology and hepatology for the benefit of public health; to promote and co-ordinate, throughout Europe and beyond, discussion and exchange of ideas and results relating to the diagnosis, treatment, research and prevention of diseases; and to provide a suitable medium for the dissemination and discussion of the latest results in the field of gastroenterology and hepatology and related subjects.
Since its first meeting in 1992, UEGW has become the largest and most prestigious meeting in Europe for all specialists in the gastrointestinal community, attracting physicians, researchers and academics from around the world who desire to stay up-to-date in their respective fields. This years UEGW was held in Le Palais des Congrès de Paris in Paris, France. This is the second time in the UEGW history that Paris has been chosen to host the most prestigious gastrointestinal and liver disease meeting in Europe. Paris, being one of the leading business and cultural centers in Europe, was an excellent location for an international meeting of this kind. The conference itself was held in an exemplary setting. The Palais des Congrès is internationally renowned and, since its creation in 1974, it has played an important role in the economic life and cultural development of the French capital. The congress location was easily accessible by various public transport methods and was truly a world-class convention center. This year's UEGW meeting took place from Saturday 27th to Wednesday 31st October. Within the frame of UEGW, the 11th meeting of the European Society of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy Nurses, and Associates, in association with the French Society of Endoscopy Nurses also took place from Saturday 27th to Monday 29th October, providing a full and varied program for nurses from European countries and afar.
