APPLIED PARTIAL DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS WITH FOURIER SERIES AND BOUNDARY VALUE PROBLEMS by Richard Haberman Prentice Hall, 4th edition, 2003, 769 pp. ISBN: 0-13-065243-1
I inherited this textbook for my course when I arrived at United States Military Academy to teach Partial Differential Equations (PDE). The first half of the book is ideal for an upper-level undergraduate math course. The book works well for students majoring in Mathematics, Physics, or Engineering. Chapter one sets the agenda for the analysis by breaking the topic into three stages: Formulation, Solution, and Interpretation. A fair amount of time is spent on each topic and thoughtful examples are given, but the main thrust of the book is on solution techniques. Haberman starts out with the heat and diffusion equations and builds to Laplace's equation and the wave equation, while demonstrating the use of separation methods. There is also...
