Dear Dr. Donohue: The subject of "cross-training" came up in our club. I know little about it. Please fill me in. Is it some sort of exercise?
Cross-training is more than an exercise. It is an exercise program. It is a method whereby you vary your exercises.
For example, if you run and do nothing else, you might add or alternate biking or swimming sessions, perhaps strength exercises.
Cross-training does not demand that you do all the different exercises every day. You alternate days of running, cycling, swimming, etc.
The idea is to produce a better muscle balance than you get in using only a certain limited group. You also avoid the training staleness...
