BECKLEY - When Raleigh County ex-pats pass through town here, many stop to see Diana Hamilton before visiting their own mothers.
Hamilton has worked at the King Tut Drive-In, the city's landmark eatery, for 31 years. Now the restaurant's manager, she says the drive-in's hot dogs, barbeque sandwiches and homemade pies are the most popular menu items.
She says plenty of people also stop by on their way out of town to pick up food to take home. The grub has even started crossing state lines.
Hamilton says a lady in Florida called the restaurant recently and said her brother, a Beckley native, wanted some King Tut barbeque for his Sunshine State wedding reception. Hamilton packed some in a box and sent it South.
A clerk at the local UPS store told Hamilton that someone else recently shipped hot dogs to a friend in California.
