Don't feed the geese,
North Park tells patrons
There will be no more free lunch - or breakfast or dinner - for the geese and other waterfowl at North Park's Marshall Island.
Of course, that's only if park visitors obey a new commandment: Do not cast loaves of bread upon the waters.
Park officials have posted signs to discourage visitors from tossing bread or any kind of food near or on the island where ducks and geese congregate year-round.
The food is fouling the lake and shores of the 3,000 acre Allegheny County-owned park.
Because of continued handouts, the waterfowl population at the park is growing and has led to some aggressive geese - and an obstacle course of their droppings.
And that's in addition to a continuing battle by the county to get rid of rats and other vermin attracted by the food.
