HER new novel has ignited a fresh row about her views on transgender issues.
But JK Rowling has insisted that a murderer who dresses up in women's clothing in her new book Troubled Blood is based on two real-life killers.
The author, 55, who writes the Strike crime novels under the pen name Robert Galbraith, has revealed that she was influenced by Jerry Brudos and Russell Williams to create fictional character Dennis Creed.
Brudos, who killed at least four women in the US between 1968 and 1969, stole women's shoes and underwear and at one point created a female persona for himself. Williams was also known for stealing female clothing ahead of his conviction for the murder of two women in 2010.
