MANIC STREET PREACHERS `If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next' (Epic): Eagerly anticipated - and well worth the wait. A powerful message delivered in a simple way with a memorable melody and effective guitar work. Expect it to debut at numbero ne.
BEST OF THE REST
STEPS `One For Sorrow' (Jive): The nearest thing you'll get to an Abba tribute song in the top ten. This sounds just like the Swedes around the time their complex inter-band relationships were hitting a rocky patch. Look on the bright side, though. Alim ited number of singles have got a free `Dance Like Steps' instruction poster!
AEROSMITH `I Don't Want To Miss A Thing' (Columbia): Songwriter Diane Warren weaves her magic again with a bombastic power ballad from the `Armageddon' movie soundtrack. It perfectly suits Steven Tyler's sleazy vocals as the track moves towards itsstrin gs-soaked conclusion. Aerosmith are up for a number of MTV music video awards including Best Video from a Film and Best Editing for this single.
MANSUN `Being A Girl' (Parlophone): Mansun see how many musical styles they can squeeze into two minutes. From reggae to rock to romantic ballad, they're all there. Can't wait for the album!
CREDIT TO THE NATION `Tacky Love Song' (Chrysalis): The Midlands' own Matty Hanson samples Radiohead's `High and Dry' for his lilting, infectious...tacky love song. Should be a big radio hit because it has a great summer feel to it.
DEL AMITRI `Cry To Be Found' (Mercury): Soulful offering from the Scots lads who are now on the Mercury label following the dissolution of their previous home A&M. There's a slightly warmer feel to this release with lots of strings and Wet Wet Wet-stylechorus.
HILLMAN MINX `I've Had Enough' (Mercury): An old idea done rather well - a list of things the band find offensive/boring/distasteful put to music. You've got `Courteney Cox, Versace frocks; football shirts and Damien Hirst' etc etc. Could get a bittires ome after a few plays but, live, the band plan to update the lyrics as the mood takes them.
ELECTRASY `Morning Afterglow' (MCA): The West Country fivesome's second single, the follow-up to `Lost in Space' is a sweeping ballad that rises to a crescendo of strings, piano and guitars. Sounds...
