THE SPECIALS THE BEST OF THE SPECIALS (Chrysalis): The Best of the Specials kicks off with the irrepressible Gangsters, surely the greatest management-slagging chart smash ever committed to vinyl. While Madness were the fun side of the Two Tone movement with a sound that never really developed or altered throughout their career the Specials were social commentators and sonic explorers, not content to stay in a ska/bluebeat pigeonhole. Ghost Town's spacey dub still sounds eerily prophetic it hit the number one spot just as London and Bristol erupted into riots in the summer of 1981 while the message behind Too Much Too Young's urgent endorsement of birth control is as important as it ever was. This best-of comes with a bonus DVD featuring promo videos and some truly stunning live clips where most of the audience seem to be on the stage.
