A violent death: a useful and loving life
Funeral arrangements were incomplete at press time for Ms. Ruby Jean Johnson, a well-known and highly respected Harlem matron, who died a violent death in her home early last week. Her body was found on June 26 in the bathroom of her apartment at 660 St. Nicholas Ave., where she had lived for more than 50 years.
According to the Department of Public Information for the NYPD, she was strangled and had a puncture wound of undetermined origin on her bloated face. There were cord or rope marks around her neck, suggesting, prior to autopsy, ligature strangulation and/or stabbing as cause(s) of death.
