SUZANNE HERMANN/MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATE
Suzanne Hermann of Lynbrook received Mercy Medical Center's Gold Star Service Award for her work as a mental health associate at Genesis Club, one of the hospital's off-site behavioral healthcare programs. The honor was created to recognize an employee who has made an outstanding contribution to the Rockville Centre hospital. An employee since 1987, Hermann was cited as a positive role model for others who "truly personifies the mission of caring in all she does." Her award also said she "loves her grass-roots efforts to improve the members' well-being by helping them to lead vocationally productive and socially satisfying lives." Members of the Genesis Club are adults who are recovering from mental illness. Before coming to Mercy Medical Center, Hermann spent more than 15 years as a nursery and elementary school teacher. "To know that you have made a difference in someone's life, that you have helped someone regain their self- esteem and self-confidence, that you have enabled an individual to be productive in their community, that makes it all worthwhile," Hermann said after receiving the award. She has two grown children and five grandchildren.
