Abstract

The main purpose of this research is respond to the problem that consist in explore and describe different aspect that increase stress level in college students. According to Alvarez (2011) and Medina (1984)t as a result from the process of life adjustments in the first years as college students, some of them experience difficult times. With the interest of knowing the factors that affect process adjustments and stress development, this research was done. The conceptual framework which grounds this investigation refers to the postulates of the Stress Transitional Model proposed by Lazarus (1965) and Lazarus Folkman (1987). These authors define stress as and external stimulus or environment condition that produce instability or changes in individuals. The nature of design about this research is quantitative, exploratory, descriptive and correlate (Hernandez Sampierie, Fernandez Collado and Batista, 2006). This research has a participation of 150 freshmen students. The data were obtain through the administration of a demographic social survey, The Integration to University Life Inventory design by Martinez Torres (2013) and the Stress Perception Scale (SPS) develop by Cohen, Kamrack and Mermelstein (1983); translate to spanish by Remor in 2006. According to the results and the conclusions there is evidence that shows exist a correlation between the Stress Perception Scale (SPS) and the dimensions of psychological, sociological and academic- occupational of the University Life Integration Inventory (I-IVU). Therefore findings show that the psychological dimension was the only significant statistical factor that increase the stress levels in the process of adjustment to college life in population that have been studied. Although there is no significant statistical correlation between Stress Perception Scale and the Occupational dimension. However, when the Pearson Correlation Test was performed comparing the total amount of the (SPS) and (I-IVU) these studies cant allowed to established any interactions between variables. In conclusion it was impossible to determine with the instruments used if adjustments increase or decrease stress levels in the population studied.
