Abstract

One of the criminal justice responses to domestic violence (DV) has been referral to batterer's treatment programs. Despite court order, many offenders convicted of domestic violence fail to complete mandated treatment and treatment attrition is recognized as a serious problem. The following study utilizes a cluster analysis procedure to develop three empirically-based offender typologies from Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI) data to assess the ability to predict attrition in a sample of domestic violence offenders who were either mandated or voluntarily enrolled in an 18-week cognitive-behavioral domestic violence treatment intervention. Interaction effects between demographic and offender reported variables, profile types, and treatment attrition are discussed.
