Journal of Mining and Metallurgy, Section B: Metallurgy is celebrating 50th anniversary this year and our 50th volume will be published during 2014. Therefore, we would like to remind our readers to important details for JMM-B development and also, to emphasize the role of some important persons who gave significant contribution to actual picture of our Journal.
Technical Faculty in Bor, University of Belgrade has been publishing the journal called Journal of Mining and Metallurgy since 1965 - named in Serbian as Zbornik radova (1965-1977) and Glasnik rudarstva i metalurgije (1977-1997) [1]. The founder and first editor of the journal in the period 1965-1977 was Prof. dr Predrag Nikolic (Fig.1) [1]. The second editor of the journal since 1977 up to 2012, was Prof. dr Zivan Zivkovic (Fig.2), who continued with successful publishing activities and up to 1997, this journal was of major national importance in the field of mining, metallurgy and related fields in Yugoslavia [1].
On the initiative of Prof. Dr Zivan Zivkovic, in 1997 Journal of Mining and Metallurgy was transformed into an international medium for the publication of work on the theory and practice of mining and metallurgy. The journal continued to be published under its previous name, but in two sections - Section A: Mining (ISSN: 1450-5359; Co-Editors: Prof. dr Zoran Markovic 1997-2010 and Prof. dr Milan Trumic 2010-2012; Technical Editors: dr Darko Grujicic 1997-2001, Prof. dr Ivan Mihajlovic 20012007, dr Jovica Sokolovic since 2007) and Section B: Metallurgy (ISSN: 1450-5339; Co-Editor: Prof. dr Dragana Zivkovic 1997-2012; Technical Editors: dr Darko Grujicic 1997-2001, Prof. dr Ivan Mihajlovic 2001-2007, dr Ljubisa Balanovic since 2007). Since 2012, Prof. dr Zivan Zivkovic was appointed as Honorary Editor, while Prof. dr Dragana Zivkovic became new JMM-B Editor-in-Chief.
From the very beginning, Journal of Mining and Metallurgy, Section B: Metallurgy (or JMM-B) was strongly supported by many well known scientists all over the world, who accepted to join the Editorial Board to strengthen it by their international reputation and/or to contribute with publication of papers. Let us mention here just some of our great friends who believed in JMM-B idea from the start - first members of the JMM-B Editorial Board as an international journal in 1997: Prof. dr Jaroslav Sestak, Prof. dr Riccardo Ferro, Prof. dr Zbigniew Moser, Prof. dr Kuo Chih Chou, Prof. dr Iwao Katayama, Prof. dr Rumen Dimitrov, as well as many other dear friends and colleagues who joined afterwards and helped a lot to build this journal and to become what it is nowadays.
Starting from the number 43 (1) in 2007, Journal of Mining and Metallurgy Section B: Metallurgy appeared on THOMSON REUTERS extended SCI list (Science Citation Index Expanded), Journal Citation Reports/Science Edition and Materials Science Citation Index (Fig.3). Since then, journal ranking has been constantly increasing, so it appeared at the Journal Citation Report (JCR) list, also [2]. First impact factor was obtained or 2009 (IF 0.548), with position 29/70 in the scientific field Metallurgy and Metallurgical Engineering, while for 2012 IF was improved to 1.435 with position 12/76 in mentioned scientific field. Also, in 2012 JMM-B was evaluated for the first time in the category of five-year period - with IF of 1.309 and position 15/76. The ranking trend of JMMB B the period 2009-2012 is shown in Table 1. [2].
Besides mentioned index databases, JMM-B has already been indexed and abstracted in different Index Databases: Elsevier Bibliographic Database, Chemical Abstracts, Scopus, KOBSON, DOAJ - Directory of Open Access Journals, EBSCO Publishing, and by Cabell's Directories and AllRussian institute of Scientific and Technical Information (ProQuest: ... denotes non-US-ASCII text omitted.) [3].
Numerous submissions and interesting topics from different areas of metallurgy, metallurgical engineering and metallic materials confirm that basic concept of Journal of Mining and Metallurgy, Section B: Metallurgy - publishing of high quality articles in the scope of actual theory and practice of metallurgy and related fields - is still valid, presenting a good foundation and frame wide enough to continue further in future. Towards new issues, new friends in our JMM-B 'family', wider readers audience, and - next jubilee!
