Abstract

Injecting drug use is a major risk factor in the transmission of HIV and Hepatitis C virus (HCV) [1, 2]. There is substantial evidence to support the effectiveness of harm reduction interventions such as needle exchange programs (NEP) in reducing HIV and HCV transmission among people who inject drugs (PWIDs) [2-7], although the link between HCV transmission and NEP alone is unclear [3, 7].
