Introduction
Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is perhaps the most important crop plant given that it is estimated to be the staple food of half the world’s human population. As this population rises over the coming decades the demand for staple crops, like rice, will grow further and increasing crop yield while maintaining grain quality is, therefore, essential. For people who are reliant on cereals as a dietary staple, a significant proportion of their minerals come from these grains.
