Abstract
The tourism sector in recent years has presented an important growth in the world economy. For this reason and due to global demands, this developing industry is taking into account the preservation of the environment, therefore it is important to see sustainability as a a key element to improve the quality of tourism services, which would be reflected in a better positioning and competitiveness of the sector. The objective of this article is to approach, from the conceptualization and proposals of several authors, relevant aspects of sustainability and tourism competitiveness as determining axis for economic growth in the place where it is carried out. The reviewed studies evidence that factors such as sustainability, quality of service and marketing strategies need to be taken into account to be competitive, in order to improve the provision of tourism services, especially in the hotel industry.
