Abstract
The purpose of the paper is to reveal and to analyze the main meaning of the concept of modernity and the relevant concept of man. It is stated that modernization initially meant the construction of a specific "human nature" as the basis of the new society and culture. Just that artificial "human nature"was considered to be a unique one and it became the standard theoretical model of personality. The history of the construction of such "human nature" is retraced. The prospect of modernization of society, culture and personality in modern world is discussed against a background of various approaches to the meaning of modernity.
