Abstract

This work stands out the importance of a manual that has served as testimonial source of the musical and aesthetic thought of Jean Jacques Rousseau; its particularity resides so much in their lexicographical contribution as in the enthusiastic defense of the simplicity like principle, in front of the technical excess of the one that they made gallic the French composers in this period. The introductory commentary includes the character's heterogeneous outline, as well as the setting in clear of the possible reasons that could impel the philosopher to elaborate this summary of musical terminology. This thesis contains the first integral and compared translation of The Dictionary of Music carried out in Spain until the moment. On the other hand, it is evidenced the influence that had the Dictionary in certain musicians and Spanish musicologist, once verified the existent literal coincidences among some hundred of articles of Rousseau and, for example, the own contents in the Palatin's (1812) and Pedrell's (1894) dictionaries.
