Abstract
This work is part of a larger study which aims to know the synanthropic entomofauna of San Salvador de Jujuy, Argentina. Despite the numerous works on Ephemeroptera around the world there is no information about mayflies in urban environments. The aim of this study is to determine the diversity and abundance of mayflies recorded in the city of San Salvador de Jujuy, Argentina. The study was conducted in 32 homes of the city from November 2012 to October 2013. Two types of samplings were conducted: diurnal (with tweezers and brushes) and nocturnal (with light trap). The Ephemeroptera order is present in most of the neighborhoods of San Salvador de Jujuy because they are located near water bodies. There were 35 specimens belonging to seven species grouped into six genera and three families. The genera Baetodes Needham & Murphy and Leptohyphes Eaton were the most abundant, particularly during the rainy season. The results obtained in the present study represent the first contribution to the knowledge of Ephemeroptera present in synanthropic environments
