Abstract

Long periods of drought complicate the life of the residents of different regions, especially the residents of rural areas that depend on the resource for agricultural production in the majority of subsistence. Knowing the time of greater water availability as well as the time of water deficit becomes of fundamental importance to assist in decision making in agricultural planning. The objective of this work was to perform the climatological water balance (BHC) following the methodology proposed by Thornthwaite and Mather (1955) and the climate classification according to Thornthwaite (1948), for the municipality of Arinos-MG. For the realization of the study was used a series of historical data between the years of 1977 and 2017, relating to the average monthly precipitation and mean monthly temperature. For the calculation of the BHC was adopted the value of 100 mm for the available water capacity (CAD). The climate classification was obtained through of the values of the water index (Ih), index of aridity (Ia) and moisture index (Iu). Identified a water deficit of seven months sequenced, with an annual deficit of 428,8 mm, distributed in its entirety during the dry season in the region (April to October). The annual water surplus totaled 267,4 mm distributed in four months of the year, january being responsible for 93,0 mm, February 19,44 mm, march 36,8 mm and december responsible for 118,2 mm.
