Abstract

In La Plata city, as happens in other cities of the country and of Latin America, there has been a number of disputes and conflicts around the use and appropriation of the urban space. During 2010, Parque Sicardi, a neighbourhood in the periphery of La Plata, became scenario of a conflict that involved different social players. This paper proposes to analyze the “Bordering practices” in this urban conflict, with the aim of showing how the construction of a symbolic frontier by the neighbourhood residents succeeded to impose on the figure of private property as a legitim way of access to land. In what concerns the methodological approach secondary sources were analysed, particularly journalistic articles from different local media and the posts of neighbours in social networking sites, observations were done in the neighbourhood and an in-depth interview to the referent of the organisation.
