Abstract

This analysis will focus on changes in the Northwest of Mexico since the great irrigation was in charge of the State, whit special emphasis in the objectives that led to set up these irrigation systems in the North (covering 60% of the territory); in its construction in the Valley of Yaqui (Sonora), which radically expanded the agricultural frontier; in the irruption of the green revolution and its most explosive expression: the wheat; and the institutional legacy of Norman Borlaug. We will address the tasks undertaken by local research centres and the long-term effects of environmental pollution.
