Abstract

Rapid growth in tourism can have disastrous consequences that could eventually lead to a decline in tourism. [...]the focus of sustainable tourism policy must shift from economic growth to growth without undermining tourism carrying capacity [35]. [...]sustainable tourism policies should not only focus on increasing the number of tourists or income, but also better serve the tourism industry to serve the broader development goals of local communities, regions and countries [44]. Tourism depends on the environmental, material and socio-cultural resources of the tourist destination. [...]to achieve greater tourism sustainability, stakeholders need to participate in sustainable tourism policy development and implementation processes, as well as long-term strategic planning [24]. [...]the growth of tourism has proven to be an effective tool for many countries to achieve sustainable economic growth and corresponding socio-economic development.
