Abstract

Introduction Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from defects in insulin secretion, insulin action, or in both [1]. Earlier, we reported the high prevalence of diabetes in metabolic syndrome subjects in the Gwalior-Chambal region of Central India [11,12,13]; however, no detailed study with a focus on the prevalence of diabetes mellitus has been done in this area. [...]the present work aimed to study the prevalence of prediabetes and diabetes in the Gwalior-Chambal region of the northern part of Central India. 2. [...]demographical details and personal information about each subject, such as age, food habits, physical activity, and personal habits like smoking, alcohol consumption, and family history, were recorded one day before screening by using structured questionnaires (Table 1).
