Abstract

The book starts with a masterly overview of marine fungi and fungal-like organisms by the editors, covering their classification, and numbers; around 530 species are known, most described in the 1980s and 1990s, but the actual number is estimated here at 12,060 species. Ever since Beadle [and] Tatum (1941) established Neurospora crassa as a model system for the elucidation of genetics, it has been the focus of elegant in-depth research into fungal genetics.
