Abstract
The properties of quantum phase transitions in the semimicroscopic algebraic cluster model are investigated. The order of the quantum phase transition is shown to depend on the path taken in the parameter space and a novel procedure to obtain the Maxwell set separatrix is discussed. The first steps toward a description of systems of deformed cluster and heavy nuclei are presented.
