Abstract

The purpose of this thesis was to write a grant proposal, develop, and secure funding for a proposed workshop. The proposed workshop will support the parent caregivers of children with a recently confirmed diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital of Long Beach was selected as the host agency for this workshop. The review of literature revealed that parents of children with ASD are a vulnerable population due to caregiver stress and the lack of comprehensive support at the time of diagnosis. The goals and objectives of this workshop would be to provide adjustment to new diagnosis transitional support, psychoeducation, caregiver education on managing burnout and self-care strategies, linkage to community resources, and foster relationships with the Long Beach Unified School District. This grant was written to the David and Lucile Packard Foundation. Submission and funding of this grant was not a requirement for successful completion of this project.
