Abstract

Received: May 22, 2021; Accepted: June 17, 2021 ABSTRACT Background: Hypertension is a long-term medical condition in which the blood pressure in the arteries is persistently elevated Hypertension is one of the diseases of the 21st century, with a social dimension and is major public health problem in urban and nowadays in rural areas as well. Conclusion: It becomes essential to strengthen health systems in rural areas and public policies required to be formulated to reduce the exposure of rural population to risk factors such as an unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, and harmful use of alcohol and tobacco with a special focus on children, adolescents, and youth. The various modifiable risk factors of hypertension are physical inactivity, unhealthy diet consumption such as excess of saturated fats and common salt, tobacco , alcohol abuse, and stress. [4] Accurate estimates of hypertension prevalence and various risk factors among the rural population are, therefore, necessary to plan effective control measures. [...]there is a need felt for the community-based studies in rural areas of India with a view to determine the geographical differences in the prevalence of hypertension and the different risk factors associated with it.
