Abstract

Although America has experienced the start of several mega-churches in the past century, many of these churches continue to experience a decline in attendance. Not only are mega-churches experiencing a decline in attendance, but many other churches are sharing the same experience. Further, as generations of Americans are not associating themselves with any religion, the decline of church attendance has increased. Smith (2015) reported that "A new study that focuses on trends and shifts among megachurches in the United States has found that although more Americans than ever are attending megachurches, megachurch worshipers are attending church less frequently." This qualitative, descriptive case study investigates African American males' church attendance and their levels of participation. This case study will also investigate any perceptions concerning African American males attending church. Finally, it will explore strategies to attract and encourage African American males' attendance in churches in Columbia, South Carolina, and the metropolitan area.
