Abstract

Depression has been considered as one of the most prevalent emotional problems among children and adolescents, which justifies the concern in having valid and precise instruments to measure it. The present study aimed at adapting and verifying the evidences of construct validity and reliability of the Children's Depression Inventory (CDI) in the context of the city of São Luís - MA. For that, there was a participation of 280 students, with ages ranging from 9 to 17 years old (M= 13 years old e SD= 2,47), of which 54,3% were female. A factorial analysis itself (ML - Maximum Likelihood) was done and the results indicate an uni-factorial solution, represented by 20 items with factorial loads which range from 0,40 to 0,72 and proper value (eigenvalue) of 7,37. The uni-factorial structure explained 36,86% of the total variance, with internal consistency index a = 0,91 (Cronbach's Alpha), showing that the CDI has acceptable psychometrical parameters, being adequate to identify general symptoms of depression.
