Abstract

Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene unidirectional fabric (hereinafter referred to as UHMWPE UD fabric) composite material is a ballistic composite material with excellent performance. Aiming to improve the ballistic property of UD fabric composite, this paper introduces the new trends both in polyethylene fiber broadening technology and UHMWPE UD fabric resin system; in view of the low heat resistance and poor resistance of UHMWPE UD fabric, the application and development of functionalized UHMWPE UD fabric composite are discussed. Finally, a new type of molecular ballistic composite material is proposed, which has a micro-structure obviously different from that of the conventional UHMWPE UD fabric composite.
