Abstract

Many courses related to sustainable design are given in architectural courses in order to motivate future designers to design projects that are more respectful to our environment. These courses are involved with certain standards that are practiced internationally. However, as most of these standards were developed in Western countries, the question of their accuracy to practice in other contexts still arises. In this article, we question the accuracy of Fanger model, which is practiced worldwide for analyzes of the thermal comfort of buildings, for context of tropical countries. Five buildings were chosen as case study to measure the physical parameters that influence thermal comfort. These measures are then confronted with surveys and interviews with the occupants. Some recommendations related to practice of standards for architectural courses for tropical climate are proposed according to our result.
