Abstract

This research introduces a simple and effective chaotic system that is used in the application of an image encryption algorithm. Simulations and performance evaluations show that the proposed chaotic system has enhanced chaotic ranges - a desirable feature for image encryption. To investigate its applications in image security, a novel image encryption algorithm is proposed consisting of pixel manipulation in several steps. This simple, unique algorithm allows for a variety of different pseudo-random behaviors to encrypt both gray scale and color images. Different assessments are performed to measure the success of the algorithm such as correlation coefficient calculations, pixel value histograms, and data loss simulations. All reflect the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed image encryption algorithm. The results are further validated through a brief comparison with other scholarly works. Moreover, this research generates different avenues for future exploration and algorithm refinement.
