Słowo w działaniu: Trzy polskie tłumaczenia „Fröken Julie” Augusta Strindberga w kontekście pytania o specyfikę przekładu tekstów dramatycznych

Abstract

Autorzy artykułu podjęli się zbadania trzech polskich przekładów dramatu Fröken Julie (Panna Julia/Julie) Augusta Strindberga pod kątem sposobów realizacji wypowiedzeń rozkaźnikowych pojawiających się w kwestiach, jakie Julie kieruje do służącego Jeana. Wypowiedzenia takie zostały uznane za ważny aspekt teatralnego potencjału dramatu na poziomie illokucyjnym. Łącznie badaniu poddano 66 szwedzkich wypowiedzeń imperatywnych i ich realizacji w translacjach autorstwa Ignacego Suessera, Zygmunta Łanowskiego oraz Mariusza Kalinowskiego. Analiza, przeprowadzona na płaszczyźnie jakościowej i ilościowej, wykazała, że w przekładzie Suessera dyskurs Julie sugeruje jej władczość, ale i koncyliacyjność, podczas gdy u Łanowskiego bohaterka manifestuje przede wszystkim uprzejmość w relacji do Jeana. Wybory Kalinowskiego natomiast kreują wiele różnych pozycji dyskursywnych postaci. W tekście tym metamorfozy illokucyjnego profilu Julie sugerują wyraźnie, że podlega ona przemianom w miarę rozwoju akcji dramatu. Tłumaczenie Kalinowskiego stwarza więc podstawy do bardziej zniuansowanych ujęć dyskursu tytułowej postaci dramatu, sugerując interesujące ścieżki interpretacji scenicznej.

This article examines three Polish translations of August Strindberg’s drama Fröken Julie (Miss Julie) in terms of the rendering of the imperative statements appearing in Julie’s utterances addressed to the servant Jean. Such utterances are considered an important aspect of the drama’s stage potential at the illocutionary level. A total of 66 Swedish utterances and their realizations in translations by Ignacy Suesser, Zygmunt Łanowski, and Mariusz Kalinowski have been studied. The analysis, carried out on a qualitative and quantitative level, showed that in Suesser’s translation, Julie’s discourse appears as commanding but also conciliatory, while in Łanowski’s translation the protagonist primarily manifests kindness in her relationship with Jean. In Kalinowski’s translation, on the other hand, the translator’s choices create many different features in Julie’s discourse profile, the metamorphoses of this her illocutionary profile clearly suggest that she undergoes transformations as the action of the drama unfolds. Kalinowski’s translation thus lays the groundwork for more nuanced readings of Julie’s character discourse, and thereby suggests interesting paths of the drama’s stage interpretations.
