En este artículo se ilustra a partir de un recuento histórico, cómo fueron las condiciones de los hospitales que existieron en Santa Marta durante la época colonial bajo la dominación española, mostrando para ello una radiografía de las circunstancias que hicieron posible su constitución, evolución y desaparición, al igual que la relación que tenían los mismos con el entorno que los circunscribía, desde los puntos de vista político, económico, social y cultural.
