Abstract
Giant panda(Ailuropoda melanoleuca)is a unique species in China.It is listed as a first-class national protected species of China and is listed in CITES appendix I.Giant panda is praised as s “National Treasure” of China,a flagship species of wildlife conservation,and is loved by people of the world.To conduct international cooperation in the conservation of giant panda is a long-term conservation research approach with technical and capability requirements for any collaborating overseas institutions.Based on the successful implementation of the giant panda collaborative research projects over the years,we analyze and explain the technical requirements in nine aspects.We conclude that international collaborators on research of giant panda must ensure efficient operation and management in collaborative institutions,optimize the rearing environment and conditions,ensure animal health and welfare,strengthen scientific research and cooperation,have diversified approaches in popular science education,and strengthen communication and collaboration between institutions.
