Abstract
In spite of proper feeding, breeding and population management of captive Sichuan snub-nosed monkeys(Rhinopithecus roxellanae)in Chinese zoos, infection by whipworm(Trichuris spp.)has been a serious problem. We analyzed 442 fecal samples from 7 monkeys at Hangzhou Zoo and found the repeated infection ratio by whipworm was insensitive to temperature but was reduced significantly by fire sterilization after deworming and two consecutive deworming treatments rather than one. These results describe practical experience in parasite-infection prevention and preparation for better population management of captive Sichuan snub-nosed monkey and other primates.
