Abstract
D.O. Uclés is one of the youngest wine quality areas in Spain. It is located between the provinces of Cuenca and Toledo, occupying a total vineyard area of 1,700 ha. We have studied 17 profiles from the western zone, west of the Sierra de Altomira, which were sampled and classified according to FAO standards (1996). The studied soils characteristics are: alkaline pH (pH = 8,24), percentages of clay of 20%, high electrical conductivity values (0,44 dS / m) and high contents in CaCO3 (22%). The element with more concentration is Si (with a mean value of 196,6 g / kg), followed by Ca (120,22 g / kg) and Al (63,86 g / kg). Among the trace elements, Sr is the more abundant (445,75 mg / kg) followed by Rb (81,64 mg / kg) and Ba (223,61 mg / kg). It has been possible to differentiate several groups of soils using the contents in the previous referenced chemical elements, the physical-chemical characteristics and the high correlations between the total content of iron and aluminium with certain chemical elements of the Rare Earth group.
