Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explore quality of life-related outcomes for adults receiving recovery model mental health treatment in Mental Health America's Long Beach, California Wellness Center. The researcher utilized quantitative methods to analyze secondary data obtained from 43 consumers diagnosed with serious mental illness. Findings indicated that some relationship did exist between substance misuse and positive quality of life outcomes. It was also identified that positive quality of life outcomes increased between one year in treatment and seven years in treatment, but after seven years, positive quality of life outcomes decreased. More research is needed in this area, as the recovery model has not been evaluated with rigor in terms of consumer outcomes.
