As I write, it is late October, and snow has not yet come, but a storm of proposals from NFA members has descended upon Assistant Program Chair Jennifer Rhyne and me. This deluge is astounding in its breadth and quality, ensuring a terrific and diverse convention appealing to everyone, with flute choirs, low flutes, and early music to world-class soloists, piccolo, jazz, and world premieres.
In particular, members responded to my call for music from the Upper Midwest. Minnesota is a hotbed of new music, the home of many excellent composers.
Lovers of Baroque music will not want to miss this convention, as along with our own historical flute offerings, the Twin Cities Early Music Festival will run concurrently.
We will celebrate two Lifetime Achievement Awardees and one Distinguished Service Awardee in Minneapolis:
