The 2009 Adult Dental Health Survey (ADHS) is the fifth in a series of national dental surveys that have been carried out approximately every 10 years since 1968. The main purpose of these surveys has been to get a picture of the dental health of the adult population and how this has changed overtime. A First Release of statistics from the survey was published by the NHS Information Centre for Health and Social Care in December 2010 and the main findings were released on the 25 March 2011.
The results of the survey show that across almost all of the indicators of oral health and disease there has been a continued improvement in adults' dental health. For example;
