The twin assertions that World War I had a significant impact on the United States, and that the United States had a substantial impact on World War I, might initially seem a bit underwhelming, but to those familiar with the relative amount of scholarship concerning America and other twentieth-- century conflicts, the argument is worth making. For this reason it is a pleasure to read America and the Great War, 1914-1920, written by D. Clayton James and Anne Sharp Wells. They have produced an extraordinarily concise survey describing American involvement in the war as well as the war's impact on the nation.
