Humanized design has always been neglected in China for decades, and public space, walking activities, and urban space as a meeting place have been in a very minor position in the dominant modernism design. Campus planning means conducting organizational design of buildings and their space. Outdoor open spaces are often ignored during the process of the design, but the human functions of these open spaces such as traffic, learning, listening, conversation, and aesthetic appreciation should be paid more attention to. Almost all campuses have a central square or meeting place, and the forecourt square in a campus has specific functions, where students can chat with their friends, bask in the sunshine, sleep or study11'.
When more people walk and stay in a square, the functions of the square space are shown. A square space where people stay has a rational and cohesive structure. Three functions such as providing short walking distance, having an attractive public space, and diversity can increase the vigor of a square space. In this paper, the behavior styles of students which are the main service groups of Sanjiacun Square in Xiamen University were surveyed and analyzed, and strategies to design the square space in the campus from the perspective of humanity were summarized.
