Occasionally you find a book that clearly reflects a lifetime of quality teaching and research on an important subject. Aqueous Environmental Geochemistry (1997), by Donald Langmuir, is exactly one of those books. In a 600-page, 13-chapter book he has managed to capture the basic principles of geochemistry, many useful applications, and numerous up-to-date references. The focus is on understanding "controls on the chemical quality of surface and subsurface waters, both pristine and polluted," and "inorganic processes [of] the chemistry of soil and ground waters." There is more limited information on the chemistry of precipitation and the oceans. The book could be used for...
