Elite Syncopations, the ballet choreographed by Sir Kenneth MacMillan, was part of the National Ballet of Canada's current season. First performed by the National in 1978, this enormously popular ballet, which contains Ragtime music by Scott Joplin and others, features a live band playing onstage. The scene is a dance - hall in the early 1900s, where the characters compete for the limelight, dancing and flirting. Costumes that are as entertaining and lighthearted as the music and dancing were designed by Ian Sperling for the ballet's world premiere in 1974 by the Royal Ballet in London, England.
