ABSTRACT
Goods and service tax is a unique and relevant topic for India as it alters existing trade practices and regulations. The new legislation can even be considered as a second generation tax reform in the field of indirect taxation. The much awaited and celebrated reform in the domain of taxation is all set to sail and now is the right time to think about the expectations, perceptions and general attitude of traders about GST. The study explores the awareness levels and perceptions about the Goods and Service Tax reform among the trader community. With this focus, the study was conducted among selected sample representatives and data was collected by using scheduled questionnaires. Analysis were made by using the statistical package; SPSS. The study reveals that majority of the traders are aware about GST and they perceived it positively.

INTRODUCTION
GST the second generation tax reform of India is really hot topic economically as well as politically. Goods and Service Tax, Now a dream come true reality is a seriously debated and debating topic for its projected impact on the overall development of the nation. Most of the discussions and researches were cumulated in the area of expected economic growth, increase in overall production and Increase in demand etc.This study primarily interested to know the awareness and perception of traders about the proposed GST. The study is an empirical one limited to the thaluk of Kanjirapally, Kerala state.
Goods and Service tax is a much awaited tax reform expected to bring overall changes in the economy. It is a single piece of tax law that subsumes almost all the indirect taxes that are prevailing. So GST will be a more transparent taxation system than the existing one.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
It is an empirical study limited to Kanjirapallythaluk. Both primary and secondary data were used in the study. Sampling method was used to collect primary data and the sample size is 60 no's selected by using convenient sampling method. SPSS is used to analyze the data collected.
