Want to raise some film funding? Sing it for! That's what Hattie Dalton did.
SHE SANG 'I Dived Into the Shallow End of the Gene Pool' from her short film, The Banker (2004) to film producer Trudie Styler (wife of English pop singer Sting), who 'was so impressed by the pitch', she wrote a cheque for funding straight away and became one of the film's executive producers. The Banker went on to win the BAFTA (British Academy Film and Television Award) for Best Short Film on 13 February 2005.
This is a great little film. Well-written, well-produced, well-acted, well-edited and well-directed. Hattie struck me as a woman in full command of her ship. She is a fine new talent to be taken seriously, and her short film The Banker is witty, clever and confidently made. I can't wait to see what she does next.

The Banker is the first major film from Australian journalism graduates Hattie Dalton (writer-director) and Kelly Broad (producer). Dalton completed her studies at Charles Sturt University, New South Wales, while Kelly Broad was one of my students from Monash University in Melbourne, and graduated with a Bachelor of Journalism in 2003.
Both Dalton and Broad relocated to London, and Dalton worked in cutting rooms for ten years as an assistant and assembly editor on feature films, including Dave Stewart's Honest, (2000) Damien O'Donnell's Heartlands (2002) and Matthew Vaughn's Layer Cake (2004),...
